Preparing Beam & Block Flooring for Microcement
Microcement can’t be applied directly to beam & block flooring. Before the microcement is installed, the surface needs to be completely flat and free from movement.

Because microcement is very thin, with a finished depth of just 3-4mm, it is dependent on the substrate that it is being applied to.
Beam & block flooring is not sufficiently flat or stable to take the microcement directly.
These are the requirements that must be met before microcement is applied.
All surfaces must be:
- Completely flat & rigid
- Free from movement
- Free from dust & debris
- Cured to less than 5% moisture content
Your builder / flooring contractor can advise the best way of meeting these requirements. But generally, the beam & block flooring will be overlaid with a cement screed before microcement can be applied.
