Microcement can be applied to most surfaces, but it is important that they meet the following criteria before the microcement is applied:
- Completely smooth – as if you were going to paint on it.
- Well consolidated, so that any chance of movement is eliminated.
- Rigid, with a minimum compressive strength of 5N/mm2 for walls & 16N/mm2 for Floors.
- Fully cured & dry, with a moisture content of no more than 5%, any chance of water getting to the underside of the microcement must be eliminated.
- Clean, free from oil stains, dirt, dust and excessive laitance.
The prep work required does vary depending on the substrate that it is being applied to & the state of the existing surface.
Some surfaces are easier to apply microcement to than others.
Our Surface Prep Guides detail all the common surfaces that you might be thinking of applying microcement to & explain in detail how you can prepare them so that they meet the necessary criteria.
