Correct Application of Microcement

This guide concentrates specifically on the correct application technique for microcement.

Follow the process described below to ensure you get a high quality microcement application, first time & every time.

Apply the microcement no thicker than the grain size.  As a guide, you should be able to see the outline of the mesh after the first base coat has been applied.

Put an area down, using small random movements.  Then over-extend back into the previous area, blending it in & removing any excess as you go.

Work across the area using the same technique.  The microcement shouldn’t be any thicker than the grain thicker anywhere across the surface.

Try to keep the trowel movement random, avoiding long sweeping arches, as these may show in the final finish.

To avoid product building up in internal corners, run your finger, or a corner trowel down the length of the corner to remove the excess, then gently trowel away from the corner in both directions.  Use the same technique on the join between walls & floors.
