Choosing the Right Microcement Sealer

All of our sealers are very high quality & offer excellent protection for your microcement floor.

This guide explains the main difference between each one to help you choose which one is right for you.

Here’s a brief overview of each of the sealers that we offer, with a summary of the main differences between them & some guidance on which one to use where.

Water-based sealer, AquaMax Pro, is a very good quality water based polyurethane sealer.  It sets hard, creating a strong impenetrable barrier.  It’s quite fluid, so it’s the easiest of the sealers to mix and apply.

There’s no special equipment needed, just a medium pile microfibre roller & tray.  Because it is so fluid, a 3rd coat is sometimes needed to get the full consumption down.

AquaMax Pro pairs well with Microne, it’s perfect for bathrooms, where the micrcocement is waterproof already & just needs a hard coating to prevent scuffs.

On floors, AquaMax is a good choice alongside Microne Plus top coats, which have a lot of inherent stain resistance & strength themselves.

Solvent-based sealer, Maxipur, is more viscous, which means more of the sealer is applied in each coat.  This makes it easier to get the full consumption down to reach full performance.

Solvent sealers do need some special equipment for their application.  Filtered masks must be worn when handling and applying.  And it should only be used in areas with good ventilation.  During installation & for 48 hours after, there will be a strong chemical smell, so it’s not always suitable for residential settings.

It’s essential that only rollers that are suitable for solvents are used with Maxipur, failure to do so may result in contamination of the sealer, which may transfer stains onto the microcement surface.

Maxipur based sealers cure quicker than water-based, and can be reapplied within 4 hours.

Maxipur has high chemical & stain resistance, making it fantastic for Worktops where usage is most intense.

Polyshield is a polyaspartic sealer, it is applied by squeegee trowel across the surface.  When set it creates a very hard, high gloss coating over the surface.

Due to the limited working time & skill involved in the application, Polyshield is only recommend for use by experienced professionals.  Polyshield must be slowly mixed with a mechanical mixer for 3 full minutes to reach full fluidity.

Polyshield is mostly used in commercial spaces & high traffic areas where extreme strength is required.
