Applying Mesh Along Worktop & Table Edges

We are often asked for the best way to apply mesh around worktop and table edges. The guide below explains how to handle these fiddly sections effectively.

What Is the Best Way to Mesh the Edges of Worktops and Tables?

Run self-adhesive corner mesh or scrim tape along the edge. Press it firmly onto the surface to ensure good adhesion, then cut away any excess with a utility knife. If there is a large amount of excess tape, you can wrap it onto adjacent surfaces, ensuring it is fixed securely in place by the adhesive.

Next, run sheets of fiberglass mesh along the larger, flat surfaces right up to the edge. This ensures all areas are completely covered.

Roll Primer 100 over the mesh to help secure it in place. Then, use a utility knife to cut away any excess mesh rather than trying to fold it over the edges, as folding can trap air and create voids or pockets.

Can I Overlap the Mesh?

Avoid overlapping the sheets of fiberglass mesh. It is better to butt them tightly against each other to avoid creating a lip that might show through the final surface.

Because the self-adhesive corner mesh is thin, you can lay fibreglass mesh directly on top of the corner mesh or scrim tape. We recommend bringing the fiberglass mesh right up to the corner to provide maximum strength to the joint.
