Applying Third Coat Micropool

Follow the directions below to mix & apply the Micropool.

The standard consumption for Micropool is 2.5kg for 10m2, one coat.  And you’ll be applying 3 coats in total.

Expected drying time for Micropool is 3 hour and there is no limit on how long you can leave it between coats.  The pot life for Micropool is 45 minutes – 1 hours, so it’s best to mix it in batches.

Mix 500ml Comp B with 10kg Micropool.

You will need a microcement mixer and a flexible trowel.

Mixing the Micropool with Comp B

This is pre-mixed with the colour in the tub, so all you need to do is give it a mix before you start to loosen it and make sure the colour is evenly distributed.

Mix the Comp B into the Micropool at a ratio of 10kg Micropool : 500ml Micropool Comp B.

Once mixed, you will have around 45 minutes to work with it, depending on the conditions, so you may want to mix it in smaller batches until you get a feel for it.

You will need 10kg-12kg per 10m2 for 1 coat of Micropool.

Applying the 1st Coat of Micropool

Using a Microcement Trowel, work your way out from one corner creating a random edge pattern. Keep trowel movements small and random, avoid long sweeping arches – as these will show through to your final finish.

Mixing the 3rd Coat of Micropool

Mix in exactly the same way that you mixed the previous coats, here’s a reminder of the process:

Give the tub a good mix before you start to loosen it and make sure the colour is evenly distributed.

Apply the Micropool

Again, these coat needs to be applied thinly.  Use exactly the same technique as you did with the previous coats of Micropool.

Leave to Dry

Once you have applied all 3 coats.  You can leave it to dry out fully, this should take around 24 hours, but does vary depending on heating, ventilation & the specific site conditions.

Sand with 40/80 Grit Sand Paper

Use a strong sand paper, like Silicone Carbide, to prevent colour from the disc transferring to your work.

Flatten the Micropool with a 40 or 80 grit sandpaper. An orbital sander is ideal.  Or for large floor areas, you may prefer to use a floor sander.

Use the sandpaper to remove ridges and drips that have dried in the microcement.

Vacuum the surface to remove all dust and debris. Do not wet the microcement.
