Resealing Microcement Surfaces

Once a microcement surface is sufficiently sealed, it will remain strong and stain resistant for years to come.  If you are noticing signs of wear & tear, then it most likely needs an additional coat of sealer.

This guide tells you everything you need to know about resealing microcement surface

When do you need to reseal Microcement?

If you notice the surface is darkening when wet or appearing to stain easily in the first few weeks after installation.  It is most likely that insufficient sealer was applied to the surface during the installation, so that water is able to penetrate through to the microcement.

How often does Microcement need resealing?

There’s no set time in which you need to reseal a microcement surface, but if you do start to notice signs of wear & tear, or darkening of the microcement when its wet, then it’s best to apply an additional coat of sealer.

How do you reseal microcement surfaces?

Take care to cover down adjoining surfaces like walls or skirting boards & remove kickboards if possible.

Give the microcement surface a good sand with a 220 grit sanding disc.  You’re aim is to remove any imperfections and give the surface a key.  The sealer is a clear coat, so you need to be happy with the appearance before applying the sealer.  The surface will need to be clean and dry before the sealer is applied.

Next apply the sealer. Aquamax Pro is a good choice for most situations, see the installation guide for full details on how to apply it. You can choose from any of the Cemher microcement sealers.

Can I apply Cemher sealers on other Microcement sealers?

Check if the sealer is a polyurethane.  If it is, then you can apply any of the Cemher Microcement Sealers on top.

If the sealer is wax-based, then you will need to remove it completely, before applying any of our microcement products.
